WATCH YOUR COMPANY

1 Corinthians 5:11 : But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Have you heard the saying, “Show me your friend and I will tell you who you are”? It is so true. Your friends influence you much more than you think. Who do you spend time with? What do they talk about? Occasionally, you need to run a check on your company. You may not believe this, but your life currently is the sum total of all the influences on you. Look at our opening verse and see the stern warning that Apostle Paul gave the church.
When I first read that verse, I felt like, “Why was Paul so harsh?
Was it that bad?” Yes! See 1 Corinthians 15:33: “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” This verse begins with the warning: “Be not deceived,” because you can be deceived into thinking that you’re not being influenced by the company you keep. Say after me: “Lord, help me examine my associations and align them with you in Jesus’ name, amen.”
