Even though we possess the ability to entertain any thought with our minds, God wants us to use our ability to choose the thoughts we think. The Bible provides us with clear guidance. In Philippians 4:8, the Bible teaches us that we should think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Even in negative situations, rather than focus on the obvious evil, shift your focus to God in those experiences and meditate on Him. Why? So that we can have peace. Jesus acknowledged that in this world, we will have tribulations. If the world is full of tribulations, how can we have peace? It is by shifting our focus from the tribulations themselves to the one who has conquered the world. It’s all about what we choose to focus on. Repeat after me: “I choose to monitor my thoughts starting today. I consciously direct my thoughts to godly things.
