THE GLORY OF DEATH – 1

Romans 8:17: ...and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

As human beings, death is not often perceived as something to rejoice over. However, the Bible has a perspective about death worth considering, particularly for believers. It tells us that there is glory revealed when we die to self. The Bible records that Jesus struggled with doing God’s will. It was no small task choosing to go to the cross. We may never go to the cross, but making choices for Christ can feel like death. What is the glory in this then? After Jesus’ death and burial, we see him highly exalted at the right hand of the Father! This would never have happened if he did not die to self. The writer of Hebrews tells us that Jesus endured the cross and despised the shame because there was a joy set before him. Sometimes following God can look like suffering, but that suffering always produces glory. Repeat after me: through the Spirit, I put to death the deeds of the flesh.
