The story in our opening is about King Uzziah, the king of Judah at that time. God made him king at a very young age – sixteen. Being naive and young, he knew he needed help. So, he began to seek God and God began to bless him. The Bible describes this as “he was marvelously helped, till he became strong”. Then the Bible continues to say that when he was strong, his heart was lifted to his destruction. It’s a pattern that keeps repeating itself throughout history. People start as nothing, then God begins to lift them. At some point, they allow pride to blind them and they turn their backs on everyone who can counsel them. Sometimes, they don’t even want to listen to God and a downward spiral begins! Say after me: I will never outgrow my humility in Jesus’ name.
