HOLD UP ONE ANOTHER

1 Peter 5:9 : ...whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The Bible says that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers (Ephesians 6:12). This means that our enemies in this world are not human beings, and certainly not our brothers and sisters in the faith. Our opening verse shows us that the same way the enemy seeks to destroy one believer is the same way he seeks to destroy another one. Our experiences are not as unique as we think. The same afflictions happening to one are also happening to others all over the world.

An understanding of this verse will teach us that we must be discerning and patient in our dealings with each other. We must learn to pray and look out for one another. Rather than attach unpleasant experiences to individuals, we must learn to address the experiences themselves in prayer and pursue peace. Say after me: I will pray for my brothers and sisters always.
