Our opening verse carries a lot of weight. Apostle Paul, in training Timothy in the ministry, gave him a major instruction. He told Timothy to flee youthful lusts. Youthful lusts are “pleasurable” activities that distract us from the will and the plan of God. The reason it’s called youthful is because these lusts are predominant in the young. However, a youthful lust can still get an elder lost. Youthful lusts include sexual perversion, drinking and drunkenness, the love of money, the curiosity to explore “dirty” things, peer pressure, etc. The list is endless. However, the Word of the Lord towards this remains sure – FLEE! Don’t waste your youthful energy in gaining a useless experience. Rather, use it to build your destiny and extend the frontiers of the kingdom of Christ. Say after me: I will flee youthful lusts in Jesus name, amen.
