FEAR & TREMBLING – The Exercise of Salvation 2

Philippians 2:12 : As ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Yesterday, we emphasized “working out your salvation” as the exercise required to make the reality of salvation more tangible.

Just the same way those who “work out their muscles” look stronger and more toned than others. However, why does the Bible say, “work out your salvation with fear and trembling”? Why does it add “fear and trembling”? It is because God doesn’t just tell you what to do; He also tells you how to do it. In the natural, if you don’t exercise regularly, you can still be fine. However, spiritually, if you don’t work out, you are in for trouble. Too much depends on the exercise of your salvation. If you don’t exercise spiritually, it’s risky. You must do it with fear and trembling, knowing that it is serious for your life and eternity. Do you see the way bodybuilders work out every day? They are so serious! How much more your salvation? Do it with fear and trembling.
