Among the many blessings that fasting offers, one of them is the opportunity to exercise yourself in discipline. The Bible says in 1 Timothy 4:7, “refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness”. Many have said that if you’re truly fasting, you shouldn’t feel hungry. Well, that’s not the aim of the fasting. The aim is that you should actually feel hungry but you refuse to eat; that’s why it’s called self denial. You deny yourself of the pleasure of food for the treasures of the Spirit. Now, I need to add that this doesn’t suggest that you should ignore sound medical advice and wisdom such as drinking water, and knowing the reasonable limits of your body. Fasting is not to have a bragging right. It is to seek sacred things. So, discipline yourself to fast and break properly. Say after me: as I fast today, I become stronger in discipline in the name of Jesus. Amen!
