A deceptive mindset that has prevailed in Christian circles is the fact that, if it is God it will happen automatically, without any input of ours. The truth is that God has his roles, which we cannot perform. We have our roles, which God cannot perform! Our opening verse shows us that if we will profit in anything, we must give ourselves wholly to that thing. New Living translation describes it as “throwing yourself into your tasks”. You can call it immersion. This means that one of our roles in walking with God and fulfilling destiny is to apply ourselves fully to whatever we are doing. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:29, “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; He shall not stand before average men.” In every worthy endeavor, if you apply yourself, your profiting will appear to all. Repeat after me: I will apply myself to whatever God has put in my hands.
